Clear signs suggesting a foldable iPhone is coming soon have been found in the iOS 27 code.

It has long been reported that Apple is planning a foldable iPhone. Now, code analysis experts have discovered that iOS 27 contains code for a foldable iPhone.

As of the time of writing, there have been no leaks of actual foldable iPhone components or information indicating that mass production has actually begun, but engineer Sam Henry Gold has discovered that there is code related to foldable devices in the iOS 27 code.

According to him, the iOS 27 framework includes code for 'foldState' (folded state) and 'angleDegrees' (open/closed angle). It also includes an item that indicates the number of hardware displays, and AppleInsider reports that 'these are codes that clearly indicate the existence of a foldable iPhone.' This is the first time that code related to foldable devices has been found within iOS.

AppleInsider points out that Apple has been working on a foldable iPhone since at least 2019. In fact, Apple filed a new patent application for a foldable electronic device in 2017 and obtained a patent for a foldable device in 2018. Furthermore, in 2023, it was reported that the managing director of Samsung Display, a subsidiary of Samsung that manufactures displays, said that they were 'working with Apple to develop a foldable display.'

Furthermore, it has been reported that Apple signed a display supply agreement with Samsung for foldable iPhones in April 2026.

However, since Apple sometimes implements code for products and features scheduled for release several years in advance, it is unclear whether a foldable iPhone will be released around the fall of 2026.
