Insta360 has announced the 'Mic Pro,' a wireless microphone with an e-ink display and a built-in 3-microphone array, priced from 18,500 yen.

Insta360 has announced and released its wireless microphone system, ' Mic Pro .' Each transmitter in Mic Pro features a customizable e-ink display and a 3-microphone array, positioning it as a product aimed at creators, filmmakers, podcasters, and event producers who want to achieve high-quality audio recording without complex equipment setups.

The Mic Pro transmitter is larger than Insta360's compact wireless microphone, the Mic Air , but it has two key features.
One of the displays is a 1.22-inch diameter circular e-ink display that supports six colors. It can display logos, names, channel art, performer names, etc., and the image remains even when the power is turned off, making it easy to identify multiple transmitters in a field setting.

The screen displayed on the display can be changed via a smartphone app.

Insta360 cites the reasons for using E Ink instead of OLED as its lower power consumption during still image display and its superior visibility in direct sunlight. This is advantageous for outdoor shooting, live events, and field recording, as it reduces the likelihood of overexposure and allows for quick identification of whose microphone is being used.

Another feature is the three microphones built into each transmitter. While many conventional small wireless microphones are equipped with a single omnidirectional microphone, the Mic Pro can reproduce multiple sound pickup patterns such as omnidirectional, cardioid, and Figure-8 (bidirectional) through digital signal processing, and can be used like a shotgun microphone to target subjects in front when mounted on a camera.

Omnidirectional mode is suitable for natural recording that includes the surrounding atmosphere, while cardioid mode is suitable for forward-focused recording such as vlogs, solo streams, ASMR, and narration.

The Figure-8 mode is designed for interviews and two-person conversations, picking up sound from both the front and back.

Furthermore, thanks to AI noise cancellation powered by the built-in NPU, it suppresses wind noise, crowds, and ambient sounds while maintaining the naturalness and clarity of the voice.

The device supports 32-bit float internal recording for audio. While standard 24-bit recording can cause distortion if the volume exceeds a set value, 32-bit float recording makes it easier to adjust the sound in post-processing even if quiet voices and sudden loud noises are present in the same recording.

Each transmitter has 32GB of built-in storage, allowing for backup recordings to be saved on the transmitter itself, separate from the audio recorded on the connected camera or smartphone. The recording files are automatically split every 30 minutes, making it easier to avoid interruptions due to file size limitations during long recording sessions, and it also supports stereo internal recording.
Furthermore, Mic Pro supports recording with multiple people and multiple cameras. In a '4-to-1' configuration, four transmitters are connected to one receiver, allowing each speaker's audio to be treated as a separate track in podcasts, panel discussions, and multi-person interviews. In a '2-to-4' configuration, two transmitters are sent simultaneously to four receivers, making it easier to distribute audio in multi-camera shoots such as weddings, corporate events, and broadcast environments.

Integration with Insta360 cameras has also been enhanced, allowing direct Bluetooth connection with models such as
The battery life is stated as up to 10 hours for the transmitter alone and up to 30 hours with the charging case. A 5-minute quick charge provides up to 1.5 hours of use, the receiver can synchronize its power status with the connected camera, and both the transmitter and receiver support automatic power-off.

Furthermore, the Mic Pro supports timecode synchronization, keeping the delay to less than one frame over 24 hours. It can connect to digital SLR and mirrorless cameras via a 3.5mm cable, and to smartphones via a USB-C or Lightning adapter, and is compatible with a wide range of devices when a receiver is used.

The price is ¥18,500 (tax included) for the transmitter alone, which connects directly to devices via Bluetooth; ¥34,500 (tax included) for one transmitter and one receiver; and ¥57,000 (tax included) for a kit that includes two transmitters, one receiver, and a charging case. It can be ordered from the Insta360 official store as well as Amazon.co.jp.
