ChatGPT's smartphone app will gain a feature to direct users to Codex, allowing them to perform agent coding and automated PC operations via Codex without opening their PC.

OpenAI has announced that it will now be possible to manage PC operations in Codex from the ChatGPT smartphone app. Codex is an AI service that can automate coding and PC work, and with this update, it will be possible to give instructions for PC operations and additional coding tasks from the ChatGPT smartphone app.

In the updated ChatGPT app, a 'Codex' item will be added to the sidebar on the left side of the screen.

The Codex administration screen looks like this. You can manage multiple PCs running Codex all at once.

You can use your smartphone to assign coding tasks or automate PC operations.

When a task running on your PC requires user permission, you will receive a notification on your smartphone.

You can authorize the task to continue from the ChatGPT app without opening your PC.

The ability to use Codex in the smartphone version of the ChatGPT app is being rolled out gradually as a preview and is available on all ChatGPT plans, including the free plan. As of the time of writing, the Codex management function works on Mac, and support for the Windows version of Codex is planned for the near future.

Anthropic also announced a feature in February 2026 that would allow users to manage their Claude Code from their smartphones.
