Burger King's ' Mushroom Ugly Burger, ' featuring a flame-grilled beef patty and mushrooms sandwiched between cheese-laden 'four-cheese craft buns,' debuted on May 8, 2026, as a limited-time menu item. It uses a total of four types of mushrooms: king oyster mushrooms, buna shimeji mushrooms, and two types of button mushrooms. It is said to be a very satisfying burger with a distinctive texture from the mushrooms and special bun, so I decided to try it myself.

We arrived at Burger King. The store near our editorial office was sold out, so we traveled to the Links Umeda store in Kita Ward, Osaka City.

This time, I ordered two Mushroom Ugly Burgers. I requested the free 'half-cut' customization for one of them, where they cut the burger in half.
This is the Mushroom Ugly Burger. The bun is a 'four-cheese craft bun' made with Gouda, Eggmond, Mozzarella, and Cheddar cheeses. Apparently, these buns are made mostly by hand, and only about one-third the quantity of regular buns can be produced.
This is what it looks like inside. It's filled with a beef patty, mushrooms, lettuce, tomato, and onion, and topped with a 'special sour cream and onion sauce' made with sour cream, onion paste, and herbs, as well as mayonnaise. The mushrooms include four types: two kinds of roasted button mushrooms, king oyster mushrooms, and buna shimeji mushrooms.

The mix of chewy and crunchy mushrooms offers a variety of textures, allowing you to enjoy different sensations with every bite. The rich umami and aroma of the mushrooms perfectly complement the special sour cream and onion sauce, creating a wonderful balance between rich flavor and a refreshing aftertaste. However, the beef patty is somewhat hidden behind the mushrooms and sauce, so it would be great if they increased the number of beef patties so that the beef flavor could be enjoyed more.
The four-cheese craft buns are saltier than regular buns. Because the overall flavor is salty, it's recommended to enjoy it with a soft drink like cola.
