Preferred Sources is a feature that allows users to specify their favorite news sites and blogs to be prioritized in the 'Top Stories' section of Google search results, which displays a list of the latest news related to their search queries. By selecting the websites you want to prioritize in advance, if those websites publish the latest content related to your search terms, they will be displayed preferentially in the Top Stories section.
Google Search's 'Prioritize Your Favorite Information Sources' feature is now available worldwide - GIGAZINE

Preferred Sources began a pilot program in India and the United States in August 2025, soliciting feedback from users and websites. It was planned to be rolled out to English-speaking users worldwide in December 2025, and to be expanded to users in all supported languages in early 2026.
Then, on May 1, 2026, it was announced that Preferred Sources had expanded to all search languages worldwide.
To set Preferred Sources, click the icon to the right of 'Top Stories' when you search for news-related words. Note that you will need to be logged into Google to configure this setting.

Enter the name or URL of the site you want to prioritize. When I tried entering 'https://gigazine.net/', 'GIGAZINE' was displayed, so I checked the box and clicked 'Reload Results'.

GIGAZINE news articles related to your search terms have been added to the list of top news stories. Sites that you have set as Preferred Sources will now display an icon for easy identification.

If you want to add GIGAZINE as a preferred source, click this link . The 'Priority of News Sources' page will open with the URL already entered, so simply check the box.
According to Nick Fox, senior vice president of Knowledge & Information at Google, marking a site as a Preferred Source doubles the likelihood of users clicking on it from search results.
