Google is being sued by app store Aptoide for antitrust violations.

Aptoide,

which claims to be the world's third-largest Android app store, has filed a lawsuit against Google, alleging that Google is hindering innovation and price competition in the distribution of Android apps.

Google charges a fee for apps distributed through its own app store, Google Play. While Android app developers can distribute their apps outside of Google Play, Aptoide argues that Google effectively maintains its dominance over Google Play by issuing warnings during installation and directing developers to Google services.

Aptoide argues that 'if Google hadn't shut out smaller competitors, we competing services would have been able to exert much stronger pressure on Google's pricing and policies.' They claim they have suffered irreparable damage due to Google's controlling actions and are seeking compensation.

Aptoide has filed a lawsuit in federal court in San Francisco, seeking an injunction against anti-competitive practices. This is not the first time Aptoide has sued Google; it filed a similar complaint in the EU in 2014.

Google has been sued by multiple companies and organizations, including the one in this case. In particular, a long-running dispute with Epic Games was settled in 2025, resulting in various reforms such as a reduction in Google Play fees and the liberalization of the app store.
