A brave soul has created a 'concrete laptop stand' that evokes the image of ruins and decaying cities.

Many people are drawn to rugged, exposed concrete buildings and ruins that evoke a sense of the passage of time. Sam Burns, a software developer and hobbyist crafter, has reported creating a 'concrete laptop stand' that resembles a ruin or a decaying city.

Burns is a big fan of Brutalist architecture , particularly the style of exposed concrete ( without paint or finishes) and monochrome designs. So, to incorporate Brutalist architecture into his everyday life, Burns decided to make his own 'concrete laptop stand.'
Mr. Burns placed a cage-like structure of reinforcing steel inside the formwork and poured concrete into it.

They intentionally didn't mix the concrete thoroughly, leaving some unevenness so that there would be areas on the surface with more sand and cement.

They also polished the sides to expose the gravel, which apparently gave it a weathered, ruin-like appearance.

The laptop stand also has a planter made from a can embedded in it.

I also made a handy pen holder myself using a can. I rusted it with salt water and hydrogen peroxide, then sanded it with sandpaper, and painted it with acrylic paint mixed with sand to give it a realistic texture.

Here is the concrete laptop stand that Mr. Burns made himself.

This is what it looks like when you actually place a laptop on it.

The bottom also features a power socket for laptops and USB charging ports, making it not only stylish but also practical.

The flowerpots, made from metal cans, are filled with climbing plants, creating an atmosphere reminiscent of a ruined building overgrown with vegetation.

In the cracks in the concrete at the corners, exposed rebar and cables, typical of a ruin, are visible. Apparently, the rebar was polished and then rusted using water, salt, and hydrogen peroxide, while the cables were corroded by wrapping the wires in kitchen paper and spraying them with ammonia and water.

Burns' concrete laptop stand has also become a hot topic on the social news site Hacker News.
