Amazon spokesperson Jackie Burke told technology media outlet The Verge that support for Kindle and Kindle Fire devices released before 2012 will end. As a result, users of these devices will no longer be able to purchase, rent, or download new content through the Kindle Store .

However, ebooks already downloaded to your device will remain viewable. Furthermore, users can continue to access their accounts and purchased content through the Kindle mobile app,
On the other hand, it's important to note that if you deregister an older model that is no longer supported or reset it to factory settings, you will not be able to re-register it after May 20, 2026.

Kindle (1st generation): Released in 2007
Kindle DX: Released in 2009 / DX Graphite: Released in 2010
Kindle Keyboard: Released in 2010
Kindle 4: Released in 2011
Kindle Touch : Released in 2011
Kindle 5: Released in 2012
Kindle Paperwhite (1st generation): Released in 2012

Kindle Fire HD 7 : Released in 2012
Kindle Fire HD 8.9 : Released in 2012

Amazon plans to notify users who own the affected devices via email, explaining what they can and cannot do with their older devices.
Note that Kindle Fire devices from 2012 and earlier will have the same limitations as the Kindle in terms of e-book related functions, but other apps and Amazon services will not be affected, so they can still be used as tablets.
