Microslop is a term coined by combining the word 'slop,' which means 'low-quality digital content mass-produced by AI,' with Microsoft. Every time an AI feature like Copilot is released, the term is used by Microsoft's opponents to mock it.
The term has been banned on the Microsoft Copilot Discord server, according to a report from Windows Latest. Messages containing the term are hidden in the channel, including history, and attempts to post are automatically blocked for 'containing phrases deemed inappropriate by server rules.'

However, users responded by substituting '0' for 'o' and other keywords to circumvent the filter. As the incident escalated, Microsoft locked the Copilot Discord server. Shortly after, it restricted access to parts of the server, hid message history, and revoked posting privileges for many users.
Microsoft provided Windows Latest with an official statement explaining why it locked the Copilot Discord server. A company spokesperson said the server was experiencing a 'coordinated spam attack aimed at disrupting conversations,' and that they had implemented a temporary keyword filter to suppress large amounts of repetitive posts and irrelevant messages.

At the time of writing, filtering had already been lifted, and messages such as 'How are you, fellow sloppers?' and 'I just came to say microslop' were being exchanged.
A Microsoft spokesperson explained that the 'microslop' filtering is not permanent, but a short-term measure until additional protections are in place. 'The Copilot Discord channel was targeted by spammers attempting to clutter and overwhelm the space with harmful content unrelated to Copilot. Initially, this was primarily long-form, continuous posts, so we added temporary filters for certain terms to curtail this activity. We have since made the decision to temporarily lock down the server while we implement stronger measures to protect users from harmful spam and maintain a safe and accessible space for our community,' the spokesperson said.
