Google Gemini becomes an AI agent for smartphones, automating tasks, starting with the Pixel 10 series and Galaxy S26 series

Google has announced that it will release a beta version of its Gemini app, which allows users to automate tasks, for the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, and Samsung Galaxy S26 series devices. At the time of writing, the app will be available in the US and South Korea.

The beta version of Gemini is an AI agent that runs on smartphones and can automatically perform various tasks. For example, if you tell it to 'arrange an Uber to take me to the museum,' it will automatically operate the Uber app and book a ride home.

Because AI-driven automation can be problematic, Gemini can only be commanded by holding down the power button on your smartphone. You can also monitor Gemini's progress in real time via notifications, allowing you to view and stop ongoing tasks.

Additionally, Google says the automation runs in a secure virtual window on your phone, has no access to other data on your device, and only has access to a limited number of apps.

Gemini runs seamlessly in the background, allowing users to continue using their smartphone. As a beta version, it will initially be available for select apps, such as grocery delivery and ride-sharing.

The beta version of Google Gemini, which supports task automation, will be released first in the US and South Korea for the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and Samsung Galaxy S26 series.

Samir Samat, vice president of the Android Ecosystem Division, said, 'We're taking a step forward from thinking of Android as an 'intelligence system' rather than an operating system,' and that app automation won't be limited to Gemini. This suggests that app autorun may eventually be implemented as a feature of Android itself.
