Apple Podcasts, Apple's podcast distribution service launched in 2005, allows podcast creators to create their own content and earn revenue through advertising and subscriptions. Apple has announced that it will be updating Apple Podcasts to include not only audio-only podcasts, but also video podcasts using Apple's streaming technology , HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) .
'Twenty years ago, Apple helped bring podcasting to the mainstream by adding podcasts to iTunes, and more than 10 years ago, we introduced a dedicated Apple Podcasts app,' said Eddy Cue, Apple's senior vice president of Services. 'Today marks an important milestone in that journey. By bringing this category-leading video experience to Apple Podcasts, we're giving creators full control over their content and how they build their businesses, while making it easier than ever for audiences to listen to and watch podcasts.'
Users will be able to seamlessly switch between watching video podcasts and listening to the audio only. In the image released at the time of the announcement, users can see a 'Turn Video Off' button on the screen while watching a program, which they can tap to turn the video on or off. Other features include full-screen video playback and the ability to download and play offline.
Creators can insert video ads into their podcasts, and Acast , Amazon's ART19 , Omny Studio , and SiriusXM have confirmed their participation at the time of video podcast launch.

Apple Podcasts video podcasts will be available to test on beta versions of iOS 26.4, iPadOS 26.4, and visionOS 26.4 starting February 17, 2026. The full updates are scheduled for spring 2026.
