Reddit user jadelilymoon shared screenshots of rooms he designed on the Animal Crossing: New Horizons thread r/AnimalCrossing , which has received positive feedback from other users.

He works at the front desk of a small boutique hotel in the old town of Zurich, Switzerland, and at night he uses the lessons he's learned at work to design the rooms in the game.

Speaking to gaming media GameSpot about her job, jadelilymoon said, 'I work at the front desk, so I'm very involved in the day-to-day guest experience. I handle check-ins and check-outs, answer any questions or requests, and make sure guests are comfortable during their stay. I make breakfast on the early shift, but I usually work the late shift. I've never worked in customer service before, but this is the best job I've ever had.'

'Gaming is completely different to me than work; it's more like a creative outlet. I think not only about appearance, but also about reality, the flow of people, and how the space will actually be used. Designing hotel rooms in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is very relaxing, as I can focus on the atmosphere and feel without being bound by real-world constraints like budgets and regulations,' he said.

Below is one of the rooms designed by jadelilymoon. GameSpot described jadelilymoon's room design as 'planned yet playful, emphasizing restraint and focus.'

Regarding the key elements of designing a guest room interior, jadelilymoon commented, 'The most important thing is to have one clear focal point to tie the whole room together. Real hotel rooms aren't usually cluttered with clutter. They're calm, purposeful, easy to move around in, and have a clear sense of where the eye should linger.'

Additionally, jadelilymoon explains that every object you add (whether functional or purely decorative) should have a purpose. 'If you have something that's been in the room throughout the design process that suddenly doesn't fit, don't be afraid to remove it. The key is to maintain a focal point. A room should feel inviting and purposeful, not cluttered,' she says.

Color choices are another key element to creating a realistic space. It's easy to get carried away when customizing furniture, wallpapering, and layering rugs. 'I usually stick to one or two neutral colors, one main color, and one accent color, used very sparingly. These understated color schemes make a room feel sophisticated and authentic, rather than cluttered,' she says.

'There are a lot of great items in this game, but using fewer of them thoughtfully often creates more powerful results,' said jadelilymoon. 'Thinking about how people move through a space or how a room makes you feel is something that really informs my work and the design of Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Even in games, I think about human behavior and what makes a space functional and inviting.'
