'Strudel' lets you create music like you're programming

' Strudel ' is a free music coding tool that allows you to compose music like you're programming, by specifying the type of sound and the timing of the sounds. It looked interesting, so I gave it a try.

Clicking the link above will take you to the Strudel REPL, where you can use Strudel's features for free. The left side of the screen is the code input area, and the right side is the display area for reference information, etc.

By default, the code ' $: s('[bd <hh oh>]*2').bank('tr909').dec(.4) ' is entered. This code means that the rhythm of 'bass drum → hi-hat → bass drum → open hi-hat' will be repeated on a TR-909 drum machine.

Click 'play' in the top right corner of the screen to play the music. I recorded a video so you can hear what kind of sound it makes.
Click 'sounds' on the right side of the screen, then click 'drum-machines' to see a list of sounds you can get used to.

If you enter tr909 into the search screen, you will find that it can also play sounds such as the TR-909's crash cymbal and handclaps.

If you play music, edit the chords, and click 'update,' the music will change to match the chords. In the video below, you can see how you can edit the chords and change the music.
