Micron plans to continue shipping Crucial products through consumer channels until the end of the second quarter of 2025 (February 2026). During this transition, Micron will work closely with partners and customers to provide continued warranty service and support for Crucial products.
Sumit Sadhana, Micron's executive vice president and chief business officer, explained the exit, 'AI-driven growth in data centers is leading to exponential demand for memory and storage. Micron has made the difficult decision to exit Crucial's consumer business to better serve and support large, strategic customers in this high-growth segment.' 'Thanks to our passionate consumer community, the Crucial brand has become synonymous with technological leadership, quality, and reliability in cutting-edge memory and storage products. We thank the millions of customers, hundreds of partners, and the Micron team who have supported Crucial's journey over the past 29 years.'
Micron further explained that the decision 'reflects Micron's ongoing commitment to portfolio transformation and the resulting alignment of our business to long-term profitable growth in memory and storage. By focusing on our core enterprise and commercial businesses, Micron aims to improve long-term performance and create value for our strategic customers and stakeholders.'

Prior to Micron's announcement of the end of Crucial, technology media outlet VideoCardz reported that 'Micron is discontinuing Crucial's consumer SSD and RAM lines to focus on AI and enterprise.'

Regarding Crucial's closure, The Verge said, 'Crucial's closure will be a major blow to PC builders and enthusiasts who are struggling with rising RAM prices due to surging demand from AI companies. For example, OpenAI has signed deals with SK Hynix and Samsung to secure up to 900,000 DRAMs per month for its Stargate project. This AI demand is exacerbating the global RAM shortage, and prices are continuing to rise.'
