Netflix to discontinue casting from its app

It has been revealed that the streaming service Netflix has discontinued the ability to cast video from its mobile app to streaming devices such as

Google TV Streamer, with some exceptions. From now on, you will need to watch directly on a streaming device that has Netflix built in.

Starting around November 2025, users began reporting that they were unable to cast from the mobile app to their streaming device.

Netflix then updated its support page to state, 'Netflix no longer supports casting shows from mobile devices to most TVs and TV streaming devices,' officially announcing that users would no longer be able to cast content from the Netflix app to streaming devices.

Instead of casting, you'll need to select Netflix on your streaming device and watch directly.

Casting will continue to be supported if you're using an 'older Chromecast or a TV that supports Google Cast,' but you still won't be able to cast if you're on an '

ad-supported plan .'

According to technology media Android Authority, there have been signs of the end of casting for some time, such as the end of ad-supported plans for older Chromecasts in early 2025.

Netflix's announcement did not explain why the casting feature was removed. This follows a similar move by Netflix in 2019, when it removed support for AirPlay 'to meet viewing quality standards.'
