The comments in question were made public in connection with a lawsuit filed against Campbell by former Campbell employee Robert Garza, who allegedly recorded a conversation with the company's vice president of IT, Martin Barry.
During the conversation, the alleged Barry person repeatedly uses racist language and refers to Campbell's food as 'bioengineered food for the poor.' The person also says, 'Even soup cans have bioengineered meat in them,' and 'You wouldn't want to eat 3D printed chicken, would you?', alleging that Campbell's soup cans contain 3D printed meat.

The chicken used in Campbell's soups comes from long-standing, trusted USDA-certified American suppliers and meets Campbell's high quality standards. The chicken is antibiotic-free, and the company says it does not approve of any antibiotic use by its suppliers.
In response to the question, 'Do you use bioengineered ingredients?', the company responded, 'Bioengineered ingredients refer to genetically modified crops (such as canola, corn, soybeans, and sugar beets) that are grown by the majority of American farmers. This statement on our labels refers to ingredients derived from these crops, not chicken.'
In response to the question, 'Why would anyone think Campbell's uses 3D printed or lab-grown chicken?' they replied, 'A recent video included false comments about our ingredients. The comments heard in the recording about our food are not only inaccurate, but completely absurd. We do not use cultured chicken, lab-grown meat or bioengineered meat in any of our soups. We take pride in the food we make and the high-quality ingredients we use.'
'Our soups are still made with love and care using real chicken from real farms,' Campbell said. 'For over 150 years, Campbell's has earned a place in kitchens across America by making foods people love and acting with character, integrity and transparency in everything we do. We never take that responsibility lightly - we create food we're proud to serve at our own tables.'
Campbell also revealed that he has placed Barry, the person involved in the controversial remarks, on administrative leave.

'If the comments recorded are in fact made by Mr. Barry, they are completely unacceptable. This type of language does not reflect our values or culture and will not be tolerated under any circumstances,' Campbell wrote. 'Mr. Barry is currently on temporary administrative leave pending investigation. Please remember that the comments allegedly heard on the audio were made by someone in our IT department who has absolutely nothing to do with how our food is made.'
