It has been reported that the Trump administration has dissolved DOGE, but DOGE officials themselves have denied this.

The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a government agency under the White House Chief of Staff led by Elon Musk, has reportedly been dissolved with eight months remaining in its term. However, DOGE denied the dissolution, calling the reports false.

Reuters was first to report the dissolution of DOGE, writing, 'President Trump's dissolution comes with eight months remaining in his term, marking the end of DOGE's spectacular debut as a symbol of Trump's pledge to shrink the size of government. Critics say DOGE's efforts have produced few tangible savings .'
DOGE, established in January 2025, is part of the National Design Studio , a new organization established by executive order signed by President Trump. The National Design Studio is led by Airbnb co-founder Joe Gebbia, who was tasked by executive order to design and enhance U.S. government websites. Gebbia was also a member of DOGE, led by Musk.
DOGE claimed to have saved $55 billion (approximately 8.6 trillion yen) in just one month since its launch.

However, their work has always been criticized from the outside, such as when they attempted to migrate the Social Security Administration's system, which contained 60 million lines of COBOL code, using code-generation AI in just a few months , and when DOGE employees leaked US military plans .
There was also internal turmoil, with Elon Musk, who led DOGE, announcing his departure from the Trump administration and 21 DOGE employees submitting their resignations .

Even after Musk left the Trump administration, no government official publicly stated that DOGE had been dissolved.
However, a Reuters report revealed that as of early November 2025, Scott Cooper, director of the Office of Personnel Management, said that DOGE 'does not exist.' Reuters reported that Cooper testified that the Office of Personnel Management had taken over many of DOGE's functions.
In response to this report, Cooper posted a very vague statement to X: 'Nice edit by Reuters (who quoted my comments to create an eye-catching headline). The truth is, while DOGE may not have centralized leadership under the US government, the principles of DOGE - deregulation (eliminating fraud, waste, and abuse) and workforce restructuring - will live on. The US government, working with the Office of Personnel Management and the Office of Management and Budget , will institutionalize these!'
Good editing by @reuters - spliced my full comments across paragraphs 2/3 to create a grabbing headline 🙂 The truth is: DOGE may not have centralized leadership under @USDS . But, the principles of DOGE remain alive and well: de-regulation; eliminating fraud, waste and abuse;…

DOGE, which was named as having been dissolved, posted on LinkedIn, 'The Presidential Order establishing DOGE remains in effect. DOGE continues to drive federal technology and software modernization and partner with agencies to maximize government efficiency and productivity. This is a classic example of misinformation by Reuters,' pointing out that the Reuters report was false. DOGE Acting Administrator-designate Amy Gleeson also shared DOGE's post to emphasize that DOGE has not been dissolved.
DOGE also pointed out on its official X account that the Reuters report was fake news and claimed the dissolution was a false report.
As usual, this is fake news from @Reuters . President Trump was given a mandate by the American people to modernize the federal government and reduce waste, fraud and abuse. Just last week, DOGE terminated 78 wasteful contracts and saved taxpayers $335M. We'll be back in a few… https://t.co/S1pSmx26s0

Reuters reports that some DOGE employees are already working for other government agencies, and some key employees have already left the government.
Ars Technica points out that the cuts made by DOGE have led to a lot of talent leaving the US government, citing Elaine Kamark, director of the Brookings Institution 's Center for Effective Public Management, who said, 'DOGE has cut the government's muscle, not its fat.'
