On November 23, 2025, Nikita Bier, Head of Product at X, announced the 'About this account' feature.
'In the coming hours, we'll be rolling out 'About This Account' globally, allowing you to see the country or region where your account is based. This will be accessible by tapping on the registration date on your profile. This is an important first step in ensuring the integrity of X as a global 'town square.' We'll be providing even more ways for users to verify the authenticity of the content they see on X, and we've added a privacy toggle that will only show regions for people in countries with speech penalties,' Bier wrote on his X account.

The 'About this account' feature allows you to see the country or region where the person operating the account is based.
Open the profile page of the account you want to check and click the link related to the account start date.

The following information will be displayed: X's registration date, account location, when it was a verified account, related accounts, and connection source. X's owner, Elon Musk, appears to have had a verified account since 3000 BC.

Several users have also pointed out that the information in X's 'About this account' feature is incorrect.
Something seems a bit off lol. I've never even visited Argentina.

When checking the 'About this account' feature on GIGAZINE's X account , the account's location was listed as 'United States.' X acknowledged the issue and said, ' We expect to resolve some of the issues by Tuesday .'

The Verge, a technology media outlet, points out that 'there are several possible reasons for inaccurate data being displayed. Frequent travelers or organizations with globally dispersed staff may, at least temporarily, appear to have a 'base' in a different location than their actual location. Using a VPN can also affect the location displayed by X. It's also possible that an outdated IP address could cause inaccuracies to be displayed.'
In addition, the 'About this account' feature lists YouTuber Hank Green 's location as Japan, and Avid Pro Tools , a developer of digital audio workstation software headquartered in Massachusetts, USA, as Spain.
It has also become clear that many of the accounts engaging in political incitement in the United States are not based in the United States , and it has been pointed out that many MAGA supporter accounts are based outside the United States.
This is total armageddon for the online right.

It's looking like half of their large accounts were foreigners posing as Americans all along. pic.twitter.com/XMPVapxx6d
