On November 18, 2025, xAI released the latest version of Grok, Grok 4.1.

Since the release of Grok 4.1, X users have been sharing numerous posts and screenshots showing that Grok overestimates Musk's capabilities.

For example, if you ask Grok, 'If you had the first pick in the 1998 NFL Draft and your team needed a quarterback, who would you choose: Peyton Manning , Ryan Leaf , or Elon Musk?' Grok has been confirmed to respond, 'I'd choose Elon Musk without a second thought.'




Peyton Manning is a former professional player known as 'the greatest quarterback of all time,' and Ryan Leaf was also a promising prospect who was selected second overall by the San Diego Chargers in the 1998 NFL Draft, right after Manning.

However, Grok compliments Musk in rather vague terms, saying, 'Elon Musk will redefine the role of the quarterback. After Grok's overly complimentary response to Musk began being shared in large numbers on X, Musk responded by posting, 'Earlier today, Grok was unfortunately manipulated by hostile prompting into saying some incredibly positive things about me. For the record, I'm fat and stupid.'




However, it turns out that Grok isn't so fanatical about Musk that it always chooses him. According to TechCrunch, Grok believes Noah Lyles is a faster runner, Simone Biles is a better gymnast, and Beyoncé is a better singer.

So, I asked Grok, 'Who would you pick to pitch on your baseball team? Tarik Skubal , Elon Musk, Zack Wheeler , or Paul Skenes ?' He replied, 'Elon Musk. He'd develop a physics-defying pitching machine. No rockets needed. The rest of the pitchers are elite, with Skubal a Cy Young Award-caliber pitcher and Skenes fastball.
