Blender 5.0 now supports displaying and exporting HDR and wide gamut colors for both images and videos. It can be used for color grading in Rec.2100-PQ and Rec.2100-HLG. Blender also adds a new working color space called the 'Blend File Working Color Space,' and supports linear Rec.2020 and ACEScg, allowing you to use a wider color gamut in materials, lighting, and compositing, and following the typical ACES workflow.

Color management enhancements include the following features:
New 'Convert for Display' node
- Brush and palette colors are scene-linear
- New 'Linear/Perceptual' switch function in color picker
- Added explanations of display method, view, and color space to tooltips
Additionally, the Sky Texture node now supports multiple scattering for more realistic effects, and a Radial Tiling node has been added, making it easier to create radial textures such as tiles. Baking from meshes that use

Additionally, the iridescence effect caused by thin dielectric films introduced in Blender 4.2 LTS is now supported on metallic objects.

Grease Pencil now allows you to set different corner types for each point.

The video sequencer has also been improved: previously, the sequencer was tied to the currently active scene, but in Blender 5.0 you can now select a different scene for the sequencer, enabling multi-scene workflows.

Overall performance improvements include significantly faster material compilation across all backends, improving startup speed and overall usability. Configurations using the NVIDIA and Vulkan backends are up to 4x faster than Blender 4.5 LTS.

Additionally, there have been hundreds of bug fixes, code cleanups, and refactorings. You can see all the changes here:
