As of the time of writing, Project Prometheus has not made any official announcements about its business, and neither its founding date nor its exact corporate structure are known. According to a report by The New York Times, information that Bezos will become CEO of Project Prometheus has not yet been officially announced, and a person familiar with the matter spoke on the condition of anonymity.

As an investor, Bezos is involved in a variety of projects, including the 10,000-Year Clock and the space venture Blue Origin , but his title at Blue Origin is 'founder' and he does not hold a position. Therefore, if it is true that he has become CEO of Project Prometheus, this will be his first official executive role at a company since stepping down as CEO of Amazon in July 2021.

Project Prometheus is currently being kept secret, but The New York Times reports that it 'focuses on AI to support engineering and manufacturing in fields like computers, aerospace, and automotive.' Given Bezos's particular interest in space exploration, Fortune points out that the project may be related to AI-based aerospace research and could be closely linked to Bezos's space exploration company, Blue Origin.

Along with Bezos, another known co-founder and co-CEO of Project Prometheus is physicist and chemist Vik Bajaj. Bajaj's LinkedIn profile lists him as 'Co-CEO and Co-Founder of Project Prometheus.' Bajaj worked with Google co-founder Sergey Brin on Google X , a research project known as the 'Moonshot Factory.' In 2015, he co-founded Verily , a life sciences research institute run by Google's parent company, Alphabet. In 2018, Bajaj became CEO of Foresite Labs, an incubator for AI and data science startups. However, according to sources interviewed by The New York Times, he left Foresite Labs to focus on Project Prometheus.

Project Prometheus is one of several companies focused on applying AI to scientific discovery and physical tasks, employing nearly 100 people, including researchers from top AI companies like OpenAI, Google DeepMind, and Meta. The company has raised $6.2 billion in funding, giving it a significant advantage over other AI companies, according to The New York Times.
