The PlayStation 5 Digital Edition (Japanese Only) is a PS5 that can only be used with PlayStation accounts that have their console language set to Japanese and their country/region set to Japan. The basic performance of the console is the same as the regular Digital Edition, but some specifications have been customized for Japan.
In addition, the design of the console has been partially renewed from the existing model, with the PS5 console and cover now having a matte finish.
The Japanese-only version allows you to play downloadable PS5 games and compatible PlayStation 4 (PS4) games purchased from the Japanese PlayStation Store, as well as packaged games by installing a separately sold disc drive into the console.
The PlayStation 5 model, which comes with a disc drive that allows you to insert discs directly into the console, is priced at 78,280 yen (tax included), the Digital Edition model without a disc drive is priced at 72,980 yen (tax included), and the newly released Digital Edition (Japanese only) is priced at 55,000 yen (tax included).
Pre-orders for the 'PlayStation 5 Digital Edition (Japanese only)' will begin at 10:00 AM on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at PlayStation retailers and e-commerce sites in Japan.
Although it has been five years since the PS5 was released, sales are still going strong, with Sony's financial results revealing that 3.9 million units were sold in the three months ending September 2025. This figure is higher than the 3.8 million units sold in the same period last year. Despite the PS5's price increasing since then, sales have steadily increased. Furthermore, total PS5 sales since launch have reached 84.2 million units, and the number of monthly active users on the PlayStation Network has increased by 3 million from the same period last year to 119 million.
