Roblox sued by Texas attorney general for not taking sufficient measures against child sexual exploitation

Republican Attorney General Paxton, who has served as Texas Attorney General since 2015 and is also running for Senate, announced the lawsuit against Roblox Corporation on his X account on November 7, 2025.

'I am suing Roblox for prioritizing pixelated pedophiles and profits over the safety of Texas children,' Attorney General Paxton wrote in a statement. 'We cannot allow platforms like Roblox to continue operating as digital playgrounds for predators, sacrificing the welfare of children on the altar of corporate greed.'

He added, 'Roblox must do more to protect children from the sick, twisted weirdos lurking behind the screen. Companies that facilitate child abuse will face the strict and unrelenting force of the law.'

A Roblox Corporation spokesperson told the BBC that they were 'disappointed' by the lawsuit. Roblox Corporation called the lawsuit 'based on false statements and sensational allegations.' Roblox also stated that it shares Attorney General Paxton's commitment to child safety and has implemented measures to keep bad actors out of Roblox and protect its users .

Roblox Corporation also commented to Reuters, 'Attorney General Paxton is committed to keeping children and young people safe online, and we share that commitment. We are deeply disappointed that the Attorney General has chosen to file a lawsuit based on false and sensational allegations, rather than working with us to find real solutions to industry-wide challenges.'

Roblox has come under fire in recent years for concerns about child safety, and a Bloomberg investigation published in June 2024 found that pedophiles are rampant on the platform, which is primarily made up of underage users.

In addition to Texas, the attorneys general of Louisiana and Kentucky have also filed lawsuits against Roblox Corporation, and the attorney general of Florida has issued a criminal subpoena to Roblox, stating that he will investigate whether the company is promoting child harm.

According to a regulatory filing on October 30, 2025, Roblox's average daily active users in the third quarter of 2025 will be 151.5 million, 83% of whom will be from outside the United States and Canada.
