'Bomb' is a film based on the novel by Wu Sheng-ho, which won first place in 'This Mystery is Amazing! 2023 Edition' and 'I Want to Read Mystery! 2023 Edition.' As a series of bombings occur in Tokyo, the film follows the astute Ruike as he challenges Suzuki Tagosaku, a man who boasts that he can predict incidents with his psychic powers and actually predicts the explosions, but then replies, 'But wouldn't it be a good thing if they did explode?'

The film was released on Friday, October 31, 2025, and within four days of its release, it attracted approximately 380,000 viewers and grossed over 500 million yen, making it the number one live-action film to debut. Yamada said that when a film is released, commercials advertise it as a 'big hit' and he had wondered, 'Is that really true? Maybe they had that planned from the beginning?' However, with this film, 'Bomb,' he felt strongly that the enthusiastic reviews and messages sent to the cast and staff made him realize that 'it really was a big hit.'

Director Nagai has also received many compliments, with people saying that Jiro Sato, who plays Suzuki, is 'incredibly creepy,' and Yamada, who plays Ruike, is 'insanely good.' Yamada's role of Ruike is a difficult one, with a 'shaggy head, round glasses,' and a cartoonish appearance that makes him look around restlessly, but Yamada has brilliantly portrayed Ruike, who 'becomes cool when he switches on.'

Yamada responded, 'I'm amazed that they were able to make such a difficult, cartoonish character so realistic,' to which Director Nagai replied, 'That's the thing.'

When asked how Yamada and Director Nagai discussed creating the character of Ruike, Yamada avoided answering as it would involve touching on the content of the work and it would be a bit strange to focus on what Yamada mentioned rather than what Ruike says in the work. Instead, Director Nagai shared a little story about the suit Ruike wears.
Because Ruike's character doesn't hang up his suit carefully, but rather takes it off and scatters it about, they assumed it would be crumpled, but when they actually tried on Yamada, he had such a good figure that even though he was wearing clothes that were supposed to be unfashionable, he ended up looking like a mannequin, which was a real struggle. In the end, the costume designer used the cheapest clothes they had prepared as a base and created wrinkles, but they thought, 'We can't really have the lead actor wear this,' so a suit with the same shape but good fabric was made.
Yamada also commented that he was pleased that the director decided to 'show the acting in a straightforward manner,' even though the film features many scenes set in interrogation rooms, which would have limited the angles that could be shot on the small set.

According to Director Nagai, he ran out of ideas for camera angles, and although he could have gone even more elaborate if he had wanted to, he decided that what everyone wanted to see more was the expressions on Ruike and Tagosaku's faces, so he decided to entrust it to Yamada and Sato, thinking that it would be a two-person performance. 'In the end, I was saved thanks to the two of them giving such good performances,' he said.
Yamada is said to be closely checking the reviews, so after watching the movie, please be sure to post your thoughts using the hashtag '
