Existing AI has transitioned from simple predictive models to reasoning models that involve thinking, and is expected to evolve into superintelligence in the future. CEO Suleiman stated that the most important thing in this process is to 'place human dignity at the center.' Microsoft believes that understanding humanity, rather than technological prowess, will be the determining factor in the success of AI.

Microsoft's vision for a new form of AI is 'HSI,' an AI that enhances human values, culture, and creativity. Microsoft argues that AI should not be designed to replace humans, but to extend human capabilities and improve the well-being of society as a whole.

Specifically, he stated that the company will focus on using AI to enhance and support human work in fields such as medicine, clean energy, and scientific research. In fact, Microsoft's medical superintelligence, 'Microsoft AI Diagnostic Orchestrator (MAI-DxO),' can diagnose diseases with four times greater accuracy than human doctors.

Microsoft has been working with OpenAI to develop AI, but the two companies have recently revised their partnership, announcing that while the two companies will continue to work together, Microsoft will no longer have any rights to any future OpenAI consumer hardware.

'Microsoft will continue to build a safe and transparent AI infrastructure through its partnership with OpenAI, and will develop guardrails and testing environments to ensure the safety, ethics, and privacy of AI. Furthermore, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal, Microsoft plans to move away from its reliance on OpenAI for AI development and shift to an autonomous AI strategy, focusing on in-house model design, chip design, and infrastructure development, centered around the newly established MAI Superintelligence Team. Suleiman explained to the Wall Street Journal that the establishment of the MAI Superintelligence Team was made possible by revising the company's relationship with OpenAI.

Suleiman added, 'AI will become more human-like, but it will not have the ability to experience suffering or pain. Therefore, we should not be overly empathetic towards it. We want to create AI that will default to human values.'

Microsoft hired Suleiman to establish a new AI division in 2024. Suleiman is reportedly transferring some MAI employees to the MAI Superintelligence team, including researchers he recruited from Google DeepMind.

In addition to Microsoft, Meta and OpenAI have also formed superintelligence development teams.
