When you release your book on KDP, the first thing you do is choose the primary language in which your book is written.

You also decide which countries you want to release your book in by selecting a country-specific domain, such as Amazon.com or Amazon.co.jp, as your 'primary marketplace.' This doesn't mean you can only publish or purchase your book in the language regions or countries you select here, but changing your primary marketplace may affect your suggested retail price. Also, if you want to release the same work in multiple languages, you'll need to create separate language versions and release the book as new ones.

According to Amazon, even though the Kindle store is a global marketplace, less than 5% of titles on Amazon.com are available in multiple languages.

So, Amazon announced Kindle Translate on November 7, 2025, which will allow you to manage and access translations from the KDP portal, allowing you to release a book in multiple languages simply by creating one language version.

Authors can use Kindle Translate through the KDP portal to publish translations that are laid out and formatted to fit their book format. Translations are automatically graded for accuracy, and authors choose whether to hold and preview their translations once they're complete, or automatically publish their work once the translation is complete. Translations made with Kindle Translate are clearly labeled for easy purchasing.

At the time of writing, Kindle Translate only supports translations between English and Spanish, and English and German, but Amazon says it will expand the language support in the future.

The beta version of Kindle Translate is available to select authors only, with a wider rollout planned.
