GTA 6 was announced in February 2022 and was originally scheduled for release in late 2025. However, in May 2025, the release date was postponed to May 26, 2026.
The GTA 6 trailer was so popular that it was viewed more than 475 million times in just 24 hours after its release , and it is expected to be the biggest title in the gaming industry in the past decade, so it has been reported that several game publishers are nervous about competing with GTA 6 on its release date.

At the time of writing, the release date on the official Japanese version of GTA 6 website is still listed as 'May 26, 2026.'
On November 6, 2025, Rockstar Games, the developer of GTA 6, announced that the game's release date would be delayed to November 19, 2026. Rockstar Games stated, 'We apologize for the long wait, but we believe that delaying the release for several months will allow us to deliver a high-quality game that meets all of your expectations. We would like to thank you again for your understanding and support. Although this will require a short wait, we look forward to players experiencing the vast world of Leonida and our return to modern-day Vice City.'
