Meanwhile, Samsung introduced HDR10+ in 2017 as an evolution of HDR10 , which adds dynamic metadata to scene-by-scene data to help improve the picture quality of HDR10+ content, especially on less advanced displays.

Then, at a media briefing in November, Samsung announced a new HDR format, HDR10+ Advanced, which is a rival to Dolby Vision 2 and offers similar new features.

New features of HDR10+ Advanced include:

1: HDR10+ Bright
Upscaling function for high-end TVs with brightness of 4000-5000 nits or color gamuts beyond DCI-P3 .

2. HDR10+ Genre
A function that provides image quality improvements specialized for specific genres.

3: HDR10+ Intelligent FRC
Motion smoothing function that adjusts the intensity for each scene depending on the type of content.

4. HDR10+ Intelligent Gaming
A feature that improves the visual performance of streamed games.

5. HDR10+ Local Tone-mapping
Ability to improve control of mini LED backlighting to optimize image quality.

6. Advanced Color Control
A feature that allows creators to provide more accurate color data for improved color performance.

At the time of writing, there have been no official demonstrations of HDR10+ Advanced, and details are expected to be revealed at CES 2026, a technology trade show to be held in Las Vegas in January 2026. TVs compatible with the HDR10+ Advanced format are scheduled to appear in 2026.

While Amazon Prime Video has already announced support for HDR10+ Advanced, it's unclear when other streaming services and manufacturers will support it. Technology media outlet The Verge noted that it will be interesting to see how long it will take for other streaming services and manufacturers to support HDR10+ Advanced, given that Netflix and Disney only began supporting HDR10+, which has been in use since 2018, in 2025.
