Affinity, a software company that developed products such as 'Affinity Photo,' 'Affinity Designer,' and 'Affinity Publisher,' was acquired by Canva, a design app provider, in March 2024. Affinity originally attracted attention for adopting a one-time purchase business model rather than a subscription-based business model like Adobe, and had stated clearly that it would not switch to a subscription model even after its acquisition by Canva.

Then, on October 30, 2025, a free app called Affinity was released. Affinity combines vector editing tools, photo editing tools, and layout tools into a single app, and you can switch between editing modes from the menu in the upper left corner of the screen.
The vector editing mode looks like this: It has a high-performance engine that can smoothly execute heavy operations such as thousands of layers and 100,000x zoom.
Photo editing mode allows for non-destructive editing, and it also supports RAW development and PSD file import.
Layout mode allows you to create mockups of books, websites, and more.
You can also create custom modes by combining your favorite features.
The Windows and macOS versions have already been released, and an iPad version is scheduled to be released soon.
Additionally, Canva paid plan users can use AI features such as image generation and background removal.

Affinity has been released as a separate app from older apps such as Affinity Designer 2, Affinity Photo 2, and Affinity Publisher 2, and the company has stated that it will continue to support these older apps. Additionally, files created with these older apps can be opened in the new Affinity release.
