The ROG Xbox Ally portable gaming PC comes pre-installed with Windows 11 Home, but YouTuber Cyber Dopamine's testing showed that installing Linux on the PC could deliver even better performance.

Cyber Dopamine installed 'Bazzite,' a Linux distribution specialized for games.

Cyber Dopamine, who was playing the action RPG

Kingdom Come: Deliverance II , noticed that the FPS had improved compared to when he was playing on Windows.

Specifically, when the power mode was set to '17W,' the FPS increased from 47 on Windows to 62 on Bazzite, a 15-point increase, equivalent to an improvement of approximately 32%. Similarly, when playing Kindgom Come: Deliverance II at 13W, the FPS increased from 35 on Windows to 37 on Bazzite, a 2-point (approximately 5.7%) improvement.

Similarly, when playing

Hogwarts Legacy , the FPS increased by 12 points (24%) from 50 to 62 on Windows when the power mode was set to 17W, but decreased by 1 point (about 2.6%) from 38 to 37 on Windows when the power mode was set to 13W. On average, the Bazzite increased the FPS by 6.6 points (about 13.5%).

Also, while the FPS would change periodically on Windows, I found that it was stable in the Bazzite environment.

In addition, regarding sleep, on Windows it took up to 40 seconds for the computer to go into sleep mode after the fan had stopped, and it took about 15 seconds for the computer to wake up from sleep, but on Bazitte it was instantaneous.

Cyber Dopamine also reported bugs while using ROG Xbox Ally, and Bazzite was immediately updated and patched, improving the user experience. He also said he likes ROG Xbox Ally because it allows him to switch back to dual-boot Windows when playing games like Battlefield 6, which require anti-cheat.

By the way, although they are different models from those tested this time, the ASUS ROG Ally and ASUS ROG Ally X are eligible for SteamOS beta support.
