On October 15, 2025, a post was made on the social message board Reddit titled 'Regarding the Cosmic Orange iPhone 17 Pro Max being changed to Rose Gold.'
The regular Cosmic Orange iPhone 17 Pro looks something like this.
In contrast, here's a photo of an iPhone 17 Pro Max with a discolored Cosmic Orange case posted on Reddit: The case is rose gold, but the Ceramic Shield glass panel remains orange.

The sides have also discolored nicely.

The antenna lines inside the housing, which are used to increase radio wave reception sensitivity, are also orange, giving the phone a mismatched look with a mix of orange and pink.

There are also TikTok users who have shared their Cosmic Orange iPhone 17 Pros with discoloration, but the discoloration is more sparse.

According to 9to5Mac, which handles Apple-related information, several photos and videos of this 'discolored Cosmic Orange iPhone 17 Pro' have been posted on social media, but they have not yet been widely shared.
9to5Mac pointed out, 'Based on posts on TikTok and Reddit, it appears that this discoloration is due to a reaction with peroxide-based cleaning solvents. The iPhone 17 Pro's casing is made of anodized aluminum, which is coated with an artificial oxide for corrosion resistance and color uniformity. Hydrogen peroxide is a strong oxidizing agent, and repeated or prolonged exposure can degrade this oxide coating. When the coating degrades, it can chemically react with the underlying metal, resulting in surface etching, fading, and localized discoloration. This is why the discoloration is concentrated on the aluminum frame and around the camera, rather than the rear glass panel.'
Therefore, 9to5Mac advises that if you want to avoid discoloration of your iPhone 17 Pro, you should avoid using cleaners containing bleach or hydrogen peroxide.
In addition, Apple warns on its official support page under the sections 'Cleaning Your iPhone' and 'How to Care for Your Apple Products' that 'Do not use products containing bleach or hydrogen peroxide. Be careful not to let moisture or humidity get into openings. Also, do not submerge your iPhone in detergents.'
