The Galaxy XR is the first XR headset to run Android XR, the XR operating system jointly developed by Samsung, Google, and Qualcomm. Samsung claims the Galaxy XR is designed to maximize the power of multimodal AI, with Google's AI assistant, Gemini , integrated at the system level.

Therefore, Samsung describes the Galaxy XR as 'not a tool that follows user instructions, but a new type of AI companion that helps manage tasks, providing natural and intuitive interaction through voice, vision and gestures.'

The Galaxy XR uses cameras and microphones to understand what the user is seeing and hearing, allowing it to understand the user's surroundings and communicate with the user in a natural, human-like conversational style, providing unprecedented new interactions.

The apps available include Google apps like Google Play, YouTube, and Google Maps, as well as the official MLB app. Because Android XR can run apps developed for Android, the Galaxy XR can also run a wide variety of apps.

Additionally, because the Galaxy XR is built on

OpenXR , the standard for VR and AR, developers using OpenXR, WebXR , and Unity can easily port their apps to the Galaxy XR.

The Galaxy XR's shape, advanced materials, and structural optimization of each component ensure a comfortable fit, even when worn for extended periods of time. This results in a lightweight headset that's durable enough to withstand everyday use. The ergonomically designed headset frame distributes pressure across the forehead and back of the head, providing stable support while minimizing discomfort. The Galaxy XR also features a removable light shield, which can be removed for improved comfort and blocks external light for a deeper immersive experience.

In addition, the Galaxy XR has optimized Google experiences like Google Maps, YouTube, Home Search , and Google Photos for the XR, allowing you to do the following:

Travel and Search on Google Maps: Users can use Gemini as a guide to navigate to any location on Google Maps and get personalized suggestions for nearby places while exploring the world on immersive 3D maps.
AI-powered content digging: Users can naturally ask Gemini to find the content they want to watch on YouTube and get more information about the videos they are watching, enabling a richer learning and entertainment experience.
Explore more with Video Pass-Through and Search: In Pass-Through mode, users can see the physical world around them and draw a circle with their hand to instantly search for information about what's in front of them.
Auto-spatialize videos and photos into 3D: Bring your photos and videos to life by converting 2D images into 3D, transforming your memories into immersive experiences and recreating them in a whole new way.

The Galaxy XR is also equipped with advanced sensors and cameras that accurately track the user's head, hand, and eye movements, enabling a truly immersive experience. The device's strategically placed microphones, supported by software, filter out external noise and clearly capture the wearer's voice. With the help of Gemini, the Galaxy XR allows users to explore both the virtual and real worlds with dedicated XR apps, enabling natural, physical interactions.

The Gemini 4K OLED micro-display allows for a highly immersive viewing experience, like a personal theater. When watching sports, you can watch the game as if you were there. You can also receive real-time coaching and tips from Gemini while playing XR games.

The Galaxy XR is powered by the Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 processor, which delivers next-generation immersive experiences with the Qualcomm Hexagon NPU for vivid visuals and advanced AI. Enjoy your favorite content in an immersive, uninterrupted experience with a battery life of 2.5 hours.

The Galaxy XR will be released in the US on October 21, 2025, and in South Korea on October 22.
