I tried Suntory's 'Tokusui,' a water containing functional ingredients that help reduce visceral fat.
While there are many beverages containing functional ingredients that help reduce visceral fat, Suntory, the company behind Tokucha, released the first functional food in the water category, Tokusui, on October 21, 2025. While various tea manufacturers have released multiple functional food products, this is still a rare functional food, so we tried drinking it to see what it was like.

This is Suntory's 'Tokusui.' Blue seems to be their image color, and both the label and cap are blue.
There was a warning that it was not a medicine.
The product is labeled 'soft drink' rather than 'natural mineral water.' Its ingredients are water and fermented rice bran. It contains zero calories and 23 mg of the functional ingredient '3-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)propionic acid' (HMPA), derived from fermented rice bran. HMPA is said to help reduce visceral fat in people with a high BMI.
I poured it into a glass and it looked colorless and transparent, just like water.
HMPA is said to be almost tasteless, odorless, and colorless, so there is almost no difference in taste when drinking it, but it seems that the Tokusui does not contain the slight sweetness that you feel when drinking soft mineral water. One editorial staff member who has many opportunities to drink various mineral waters commented immediately after drinking it, 'I feel like there is a faint scent like rice water,' even though he had not heard any information about Tokusui. So, while it is almost tasteless and odorless, it certainly seems to have something different from ordinary water.
However, unless you make a conscious effort to drink it, there is no significant difference between it and soft mineral water, so I felt that I was able to consume functional food without any discomfort.
The suggested retail price of 'Tokusui' is 150 yen excluding tax. On Amazon, a set of 24 bottles was sold for 3,694 yen including tax (154 yen per bottle).
