Bloomberg reported, citing 'people familiar with the matter,' that Nintendo requested increased production because it expects strong sales of the Nintendo Switch 2 to continue through the holiday shopping season. The original Nintendo Switch sold 17.79 million units in the 13 months since its release, but the Nintendo Switch 2 may surpass that figure even sooner.

Nintendo also predicted that first-year sales of the Nintendo Switch 2 would reach 15 million units, but with production increasing by up to 25 million units, actual sales could exceed this forecast. According to market research firm Circana , despite concerns about tariffs, sales of the Nintendo Switch 2 in the US have far exceeded those of the original Nintendo Switch during the same period.

Furthermore, with the release of ' Pokémon LEGENDS ZA ' on October 16, 2025, sales are expected to increase further towards the end of the fiscal year.

Bloomberg predicts that cumulative sales for the March quarter will far exceed analyst expectations of 17.6 million units. An anonymous manufacturer also speculated that Nintendo will sell approximately 20 million Nintendo Switch 2 units by the end of March 2026, with the surplus stored as inventory for the next fiscal year.

Bloomberg said, 'For Nintendo, keeping the foot on the gas carries risks, including a drop in demand caused by macroeconomic turmoil. For now, those risks seem low, but many consumers are still eager to get their hands on a Nintendo Switch 2, and stores in some markets still don't have enough stock. Criticism of the newly introduced game key cards hasn't dampened enthusiasm. The release of Pokémon LEGENDS ZA this month could be a new catalyst for Switch 2 purchases.'

In the past, Bloomberg has reported on information based on 'anonymous sources,' and Nintendo has clearly denied the claims.
