The description reads, 'On a muggy afternoon with a temperature of 98.6°F (about 37°C), two elderly men sat side by side on an old bench, their voices gently blending in the heavy summer air. I chose a low-resolution toy camera (0.3MP) and rendered the scene in black and white, which erased the fine details and left only the warmth of the humid air, the serene silence between them, and the dreamlike atmosphere that lingers beyond the frame.'

The camera Kamitaba used is the '

Anpanman Kids Camera ,' a toy camera provided by Agatsuma Co., Ltd. It is designed for children and features Anpanman decorations and makes Anpanman's voice.

Kamitaba has made some amazing modifications to this camera.

It is largely disassembled, a frame is attached, and a camera mount is added later so that C-mount and CS-mount lenses can be attached.

The lens used by Kamitaba is the 6-60mm F1.6.

Furthermore, by sticking Anpanman stickers on the camera, it gives it the feel of the original Anpanman Kids Camera. According to Kamitaba, selecting these stickers was the most difficult part.

In the video below, Kamitaba talks about the modification process and the camera's features.

According to Kamitaba, the modified camera 'is characterized by softer depictions rather than crisp images. Due to the sensor size, it is equivalent to an ultra-telephoto zoom lens in 35mm terms, and the lens used is an industrial lens costing several thousand yen, so its performance is not that high, it is greatly affected by the air, there is no image stabilization at all, and focusing is very difficult. It is extremely difficult to take pictures with it.'

Instead, it seems to be able to achieve 'quite painterly expressions' that are difficult to reproduce with a typical mirrorless camera. 'It works particularly well with monochrome, and when it works well, it produces images that are hard to believe are coming from a 300,000-pixel kids' camera,' says Kamitaba.
