Downdetector , a service that analyzes social media posts to visualize the operational status of services, shows that a series of reports of problems had been received since 8:00 on October 16. There were also reports that YouTube Music and YouTube TV were down.

Around this time, we noticed that videos could be accessed but could not be played.

Similar problems were occurring not only in Japan but all over the world.

Some users endured the situation by using YouTube Premium's offline saving feature to watch videos they had downloaded in advance.

These issues were resolved around 9:30 AM on the same day. YouTube reported through its official X (formerly Twitter) account, 'This issue has been fixed. You can now play videos on YouTube, YouTube Music, and YouTube TV.' The cause of the issues has not yet been determined at the time of writing.
