Hello London! Your Waymo ride is arriving

Waymo has already driven 100 million miles (approximately 160 million km) of fully self-driving cars on public roads in the United States and provided paid services more than 10 million times.
Regarding the launch of the service in London, Waymo Co-CEO Tekedra Mawakana said, 'We are excited to bring Waymo's reliability, safety, and engaging experience to Londoners. Waymo is improving road safety and accessibility wherever we operate. We have demonstrated how to responsibly scale fully autonomous ride-hailing services, and we can't wait to bring the benefits of our technology to the UK.'
Waymo has deep ties to the UK, with its first international engineering hubs in London and Oxford, where teams are working on large-scale closed-loop simulation, a state-of-the-art approach to developing fully self-driving technology. The company is also proud to partner with Jaguar Land Rover, an iconic British brand. Jaguar Land Rover's fully electric SUV, the I-PACE, is equipped with

UK Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander said: 'I am delighted that Waymo will be launching services in London next year under our proposed pilot scheme. Advancing the field of self-driving vehicles will bring jobs, investment and opportunity to the UK, whilst increasing accessible transport options. Investing in cutting-edge technology like this will help us deliver on our mission to be a world leader in new technologies and lead a national regeneration that will make a real difference to communities.'
In Japan, the company has partnered with the taxi company Nihon Kotsu to provide the service in seven wards in Tokyo: Minato, Shinjuku, Shibuya, Chiyoda, Chuo, Shinagawa, and Koto. However, rather than being self-driving, the service is manual, using Waymo vehicles. The company plans to 'utilize data collected from Nihon Kotsu's professional drivers to adapt Waymo's self-driving technology for Japan.'
