◆M5 chip
Apple says it designed the M5 chip 'to deliver the next evolution in AI performance on Apple Silicon.' The M5 chip uses third-generation 3-nanometer technology and features a new 10-core GPU optimized for AI. Each core also features a dedicated Neural Accelerator, dramatically accelerating GPU-based AI processing.

Apple claims that this delivers more than four times the peak GPU computing performance for AI compared to the M4 chip and more than six times the peak GPU computing performance compared to the M1 chip. It also features a third-generation ray tracing engine, improving graphics performance by up to 45% compared to the M4. The CPU boasts up to 10 cores, consisting of four high-performance cores and six high-efficiency cores, and multi-threaded performance is up to 15% faster than the M4.

Additionally, the improved 16-core Neural Engine and 153GB/s unified memory bandwidth, approximately 30% more than the M4, allow larger AI models to run smoothly on the device. 'The M5 enhances the performance of Apple Intelligence, significantly accelerating AI-powered workflows like image generation and local execution of large language models (LLMs),' Apple said.

◆14-inch MacBook Pro with M5
Apple says, 'The M5 chip in the MacBook Pro dramatically improves performance and AI processing capabilities, making it the ultimate notebook that meets the needs of a wide range of users, from students to professional creators.'

The M5 chip delivers up to 3.5x faster AI workflow performance and up to 1.6x faster graphics performance compared to the previous generation. Next-generation storage technology also boosts SSD performance by up to 2x faster than the previous generation, making it easier to read and write RAW images and large video files.

It offers 24 hours of battery life and macOS Tahoe, designed for maximum productivity, with many new features including a major Spotlight update and enhanced Continuity features.
