We ran a benchmark test to see how much the performance difference between the portable gaming PCs 'ROG Xbox Ally X' and 'ROG Xbox Ally' is.

The ROG Xbox Ally X and ROG Xbox Ally are handheld gaming consoles equipped with analog sticks and L/R triggers, but they come with Windows 11 Home installed, so you can connect a mouse and keyboard and use them just like a regular PC. We decided to test their performance by running various Windows benchmark apps.



Both devices have a control screen called the 'Command Center' that allows you to adjust the operating power, output resolution, etc. For testing, we switched the ROG Xbox Ally X to Turbo mode, which operates at 35W.



ROG Xbox Ally operates at a lower power consumption than ROG Xbox Ally X, only 20W even in Turbo mode.



The results of testing storage speeds using CrystalDiskMark are as follows: The ROG Xbox Ally X (left) had a sequential read speed of 5006.61MB/s, a sequential write speed of 4180.78MB/s, a random read speed of 461.42MB/s, and a random write speed of 465.13MB/s. Meanwhile, the ROG Xbox Ally (right) had a sequential read speed of 3281.35MB/s, a sequential write speed of 2990.81MB/s, a random read speed of 255.97MB/s, and a random write speed of 259.99MB/s.



We ran the CPU test on the popular benchmark app

Geekbench 6. The ROG Xbox Ally X (left) achieved a single-core score of 2807 and a multi-core score of 12,797. In comparison, the ROG Xbox Ally (right) achieved a single-core score of 1277 and a multi-core score of 4703. There's a big difference in both single-core and multi-core performance.



In the Vulkan GPU computing power test, the ROG Xbox Ally X (left) scored 47,700 and the ROG Xbox Ally (right) scored 18,475.



Below are the test results from

PassMark PerformanceTest , which measures PC performance and compares it with users around the world. The ROG Xbox Ally X (left) had an overall score of 7771.7, with a percentile of 71, which indicates your position in the world. Meanwhile, the ROG Xbox Ally (right) had an overall score of 3981.3, with a percentile of 41. There's a significant performance difference between the two.



To measure game performance, we ran the '

Final Fantasy XIV: Golden Legacy Benchmark ' and set the rendering quality to 'High Quality (Desktop PC).' The ROG Xbox Ally X (left) scored 5386, while the ROG Xbox Ally (right) scored 3557.



The 'Standard Quality (Desktop PC)' score for the ROG Xbox Ally X (left) was 6371, while the ROG Xbox Ally (right) was 4511. The Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme in the ROG Xbox Ally X has 16 RDNA 3.5-generation GPU cores. The Ryzen AI Z2 A in the ROG Xbox Ally, on the other hand, has only eight RDNA 2-generation GPU cores. This difference in GPU performance is directly reflected in the scores.



When unplugged and running on battery power, ROG Xbox Ally X's operating power is limited to 25W.



ROG Xbox Ally remains at 20W even when running on battery power.



The results of the 'High Quality (Desktop PC)' score on battery power are as follows: The ROG Xbox Ally X (left) scored 3376 out of 5278.



In the 'Standard Quality (Desktop PC)' setting, the ROG Xbox Ally X (left) scored 6222, while the ROG Xbox Ally (right) scored 4529.



We also ran the

Monster Hunter Wilds benchmark . At the 'Medium' graphics preset, the ROG Xbox Ally X (left) scored 9166, while the ROG Xbox Ally (right) scored 5216. The average FPS was 53.58 FPS for the ROG Xbox Ally X (left) and 26.67 FPS for the ROG Xbox Ally (right).



The score for the 'Lowest' graphics preset was 11,666 for the ROG Xbox Ally X (left) and 5,896 for the ROG Xbox Ally (right). The average FPS was 68.26 FPS for the ROG Xbox Ally X (left) and 33.77 FPS for the ROG Xbox Ally (right).



On battery power, the ROG Xbox Ally X (left) scored 8092 and the ROG Xbox Ally (right) scored 5270 on the medium graphics preset. The average FPS was 47.15 FPS for the ROG Xbox Ally X (left) and 26.89 FPS for the ROG Xbox Ally (right).



With the graphics preset set to 'Low,' the ROG Xbox Ally X (left) scored 10,464, while the ROG Xbox Ally (right) scored 6,071. The average FPS for the ROG Xbox Ally X (left) was 60.86 FPS, while the ROG Xbox Ally (right) was 34.78 FPS. The ROG Xbox Ally X also significantly outperforms the ROG Xbox Ally, even when running on battery power. Meanwhile, the ROG Xbox Ally has the advantage of maintaining the same performance whether plugged in or running on battery power.



The estimated retail price for the ROG Xbox Ally X is 139,800 yen (tax included), and for the ROG Xbox Ally is 89,800 yen (tax included).
