Riley Testu, developer of AltStore PAL, shared the latest information on the evolution of AltStore PAL on his blog on October 7, 2025 local time. Testu said, 'We plan to roll out AltStore PAL to more countries in the second half of 2025 to accommodate regulatory changes around the world. Specifically, we plan to launch the service in Japan, Brazil, and Australia by the end of 2025, and in the UK in 2026.' He revealed that the service will be launched in some countries, including Japan, between 2025 and 2026.
Testu explained the rationale for launching alternative app stores like AltStore PAL, saying, 'This is great news for the movement towards open app distribution, as it will give consumers more options for apps that they couldn't install from the App Store, such as my clipboard manager, Clip .'
Additionally, AltStore, which operates AltStore PAL, has officially joined the Fediverse . Using ActivityPub , the company plans to connect AltStore apps, app updates, news notifications, and other elements to the open social web. Each AltStore source will have its own ActivityPub account, which can be followed by other open social web accounts. This means that all interactions from ActivityPub accounts will appear natively in AltStore. These features are expected to be added to AltStore PAL in the coming months.

Additionally, AltStore announced its first round of funding from outside investors, raising $6 million (approximately 910 million yen) in Series A funding from Pace Capital . With this funding, Pace Capital will acquire a 15% stake in AltStore. AltStore also announced the formation of a new board of directors, which will include Testu, co-founder Shane Gill, Flipboard CEO Mike McCue, and investor Chris Pike.
Technology media TechCrunch points out that 'AltStore has seen impressive growth since the EU's DMA eased competition in the app store market, allowing tech giants like Apple to open up new rivals to the market. AltStore offers its own third-party apps, including the game emulator app Delta, as well as the virtual machine app UTM , forcing Apple tochange course to accommodate virtual machines.'
AltStore partnered with Epic Games in August 2024 to distribute mobile game apps, including Fortnite, on AltStore PAL. In 2025, AltStore also entered the adult app market. The app 'Hot Tub,' which was released as a result of this partnership, has become AltStore's most popular app.
Testu told TechCrunch that AltStore has more than 100 developers, which is more than Epic Games Store, the alternative game app store. TechCrunch wrote, 'Because AltStore isn't limited to games, it attracts a diverse range of developers, including indie developers who want to release more apps and developers who can't meet Apple's strict requirements.'
