On October 4, 2025, CEO Altman published a blog post titled 'Sora Update #1,' in which he revealed plans to give character rights holders the ability to 'specify how their characters are used.' This will allow rights holders to control how their characters are used in Sora 2, and even prohibit the use of their characters.
Additionally, CEO Altman announced plans to distribute a portion of Sora 2's revenue to 'rights holders who have authorized the creation of videos using the characters.' The specific distribution model is currently being developed, and the company is continuing to experiment with the idea of launching a revenue-sharing program in the near future.
'I particularly admire the incredible creative output from Japan, and I'm impressed by the strong connection between Sora 2 users and Japanese content,' Altman said in a blog post, acknowledging the widespread use of Japanese content on Sora 2.
Sora 2 also has a cameo feature that allows users to include real people in videos. Bill Peebles, head of the Sora 2 development team, reported on October 6, 2025, that an update to this cameo feature is currently underway. A future update will add a feature to the official OpenAI app, 'Sora,' that will allow users to 'control how they are used in videos.'

1. cameo restrictions: we've heard from lots of folks who want to make their cameos available to everyone but retain control over how they're used.
starting today, you can now give instructions to sora that restrict the type…
Thomas Dimson, a member of the development team, shared a screenshot of the feature below, which lets users control how they're used in videos. Users can specify restrictions in natural language, such as 'I can't appear in videos that contain political content,' 'I can't say certain words,' or 'I must wear certain clothing in all videos.'
Peebles said future updates will include features to make watermarks more visible and improve model security. He also said the update has already fixed an issue where deleting a Sora account required deleting the ChatGPT account.
