The UK's oldest tabloid, the Daily Mail, which has refused to be featured on Apple News, has finally requested to be featured but has been rejected by Apple and has protested to the regulatory authorities

The Daily Mail , the UK's oldest tabloid newspaper, has finally expressed its desire to have its news articles included in Apple News , the company's news aggregation app, after previously refusing to do so. However, Apple has not allowed the Daily Mail to change its mind and has not allowed its news articles to appear on Apple News. Dissatisfied with this, the Daily Mail has filed a complaint with the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA).

Apple News is a news aggregation app announced at WWDC 2015 and released alongside iOS 9 in September 2015. News aggregation apps retrieve and display articles from various news sites, and Apple News allows news publishers to display only the content they want to publish. Initially, Apple News was only available to users in the United States, but within a month it became available in Australia and the United Kingdom.

When Apple News was first released in September 2015, users in the US were able to read Daily Mail articles in Apple News. However, when Apple News became available in the UK, Daily Mail articles were no longer available in Apple News because the Daily Mail refused to include their articles in Apple News.

According to a report from The Telegraph, the Daily Mail initially refused to publish its news articles on Apple News, citing concerns that Apple News would cannibalize the web traffic the Daily Mail already receives. The CMA also described the app as 'deeply disappointing' and 'completely unprofitable' when it was first released.

The Daily Mail has refused to publish its articles on Apple News in the UK for many years, but it has now reportedly finally asked to be included on Apple News. However, Apple is refusing to allow the Daily Mail to publish its articles on Apple News.

As a result, DMG Media, the parent company of the Daily Mail, has lodged a complaint with the CMA. DMG Media revealed that Apple had 'paradoxically' explained to them that 'the Daily Mail's circulation has grown so much that the number of articles published and the strength of user engagement would overwhelm the Apple ecosystem.' Therefore, DMG Media argued that 'Apple appears to want to add partners who can help each other grow the pie, rather than take reader share from other media outlets featured on Apple News.'

DMG Media is asking the CMA to address Apple's 'arbitrary and discriminatory practices,' accusing the company of using its dominance in the mobile market to turn Apple News into a leading news distribution tool.

DMG Media stated that 'not using Apple News is no longer an option,' and further argued that Apple News' overwhelming popularity has made it 'essential to running an online news business.'
