Tesla unveils fourth installment of its 'Master Plan' focused on 'sustainable wealth' for the first time in two years

Tesla 's mission is to accelerate the world's transition to sustainable energy, and it has set out a vision for this under its 'Master Plan.' Following Part 1 in 2006, Part 2 in 2016, and Part 3 in 2023, ' Master Plan Part IV ' has now been officially announced.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced in June 2024, 'We're working on Master Plan 4. It's going to be epic.'

On September 1, 2025 local time, Tesla's X account published details of 'Master Plan Part IV.' The opening line of Master Plan Part IV states, 'A new chapter in the Tesla story will help create a world we have only just begun to imagine, on a scale never before seen.'

Below are the visions for Parts I and II of the Master Plan on the left, and Part III on the right. Both propose a vision for a sustainable energy economy by promoting the use of electric vehicles and clean energy.

Below is a visual image of Master Plan Part IV, which focuses on 'Sustainable Abundance' and aims to 'apply AI technology to the physical world.' The image below depicts a future in which energy and mobility are integrated from factories to homes and entire cities, including the use of renewable energy such as electric vehicles and solar power, as well as humanoid robots and AI computing, and the deployment of batteries and robotaxis for both industry and home use.

Tesla said, 'For nearly 20 years, we have worked tirelessly to lay the foundation for a technological renaissance through the development of electric vehicles, energy products, and humanoid robots. As the influence and impact of AI technology grows, the mission set out in Master Plan Part IV should become less surprising. We are now combining our manufacturing capabilities and the strengths of autonomous driving technology to deliver new products and services that accelerate global prosperity and human prosperity through economic growth. By integrating hardware and software on a large scale, we will create a safer, cleaner, and more comfortable world.' Tesla spoke about its efforts to date and its vision for the future.

Optimus, the autonomous humanoid robot currently under development by Tesla, is one example of the vision of Master Plan Part IV. Just as self-driving cars have improved the economics and safety of transportation while reducing pollution through clean energy, Optimus is expected to transform the perception of work itself by replacing monotonous and dangerous tasks. Tesla has declared that 'autonomy must benefit all humanity,' and its mission with Optimus is to ensure that humanoid robots and automated tasks do not take away jobs or impede profits, but rather give people back the time they need to do the things they love.

Tesla also states that it is essential that the technologically advanced products it offers be 'affordable and available at scale.' Expanding access improves life for all and also expands growth. The theme of Master Plan Part IV, 'Sustainable Abundance,' targets efforts and the ability to expand access to convenient, sustainable, and advanced products, rather than making them expensive and scarce.

Tesla said, 'Our first step was to build the Roadster electric sports car. We used the profits to fund the development and production of more affordable electric vehicles, the Model S and Model X, and repeated this process to develop subsequent products. There were small steps and big steps, but ultimately, each success led to the next, and we were able to maintain momentum despite repeated failures. And we were able to build a fully integrated ecosystem of sustainable products, from transportation to power generation, storage, and robotics. The tools we develop will help us build the world we have always dreamed of, a world of sustainable prosperity, by redefining the fundamental building blocks of work, mobility, and energy on a large scale and for all people.
