Tesla to sell Model 3 turn signal levers separately

Tesla is revamping its Model 3 in 2023, replacing the turn signal stalk with a button. Perhaps because this change was unpopular, it has been revealed that the company will be releasing a new turn signal stalk only in September 2025.

According to a Tesla website published in China, the Model 3 turn signal lever costs 2,499 yuan (51,400 yen) and describes the product as 'allowing you to modify your Model 3 by replacing the turn signal button with the turn signal lever.'

The turn signal lever is scheduled to be released in mid-September 2025. It will be available for Model 3s manufactured after February 7, 2025, and will be available for vehicles manufactured before that date 'at a later date.' Installation requires specialized tools and expertise, and the price includes the labor costs required for the conversion.

Tesla made major

changes to the Model 3's interior in 2023, replacing the turn signal stalk with turn signal buttons and placing them on the left side of the steering wheel, replacing the gear selector with a touchscreen, and adding heated and cooled seats that can be controlled via an app.

In particular, there were complaints about the turn signal buttons being 'difficult to press' because they rotate along with the steering wheel. Although they are called buttons, they are touch-sensitive buttons, which makes them even more difficult to press.

If you are using the Model 3's Autopilot, you can use functions such as moving into the next lane by operating the turn signal while Autosteer is active.

Sales in the Australian market have been declining since the launch of the improved Model 3, and sales of the Model 3, which was once the country's best-selling car, fell by more than 60% in January 2025 compared to the same month last year.

The improved Model 3 removed many of the features found in typical cars, but as of February 2025, Tesla's Senior Vice President of Engineering, Jay Leno, said , 'We removed too many.'

It is not known whether the turn signal lever will be sold outside of China.
