The documentary was produced by Cult.Repo , an organization that works to record the history of major open source languages. Prior to its release, a special 20-minute edited version was screened at EuroPython , one of the world's largest Python conferences, held in July 2025.

Director Ida Bechtol interviewed many people involved in the making of the film over the course of a year, and commented, 'I hope the audience will appreciate the time and effort we put into it.'

The interviewees included Guido van Rossum, the creator of Python, and many others.

Ken Manheimer, a contributor to Python from its early days, was the first to use the title '

Benevolent Dictator for Life' (BDFL) , which is used to refer to people like van Rossum and Linus Torvalds in the Linux community.

Jessica McKellar, director of the Python Software Foundation.

Paul Everitt, Developer Advocate at JetBrains.

Benjamin Peterson, one of the core developers of Python.

Brett Cannon, an early member of Python.

Barry Warsaw, a long-time Python core developer.

Stephen Pemberton, co-designer of ABC, the programming language that influenced Python.

Lambert Martens, the developer of ABC and Van Rossum's mentor.

Based on many testimonies, this video traces the history of Python from its origins to its birth and spread around the world.
