Meta partners with Midjourney to develop image and video generation AI model

Meta, the developer of large-scale language models such as Llama, has partnered with Midjourney, a developer and operator of image generation AI, to license its image and video generation AI technology. According to Alexander Wang, Meta's Chief AI Officer, Meta's research team will collaborate with Midjourney to leverage their technology in future AI models and products.

Meta released its own image generation AI tool, 'Imagine,' in 2023 and has incorporated it into its own services, including Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger.

By partnering with Midjourney, which develops image and video generation AI using Discord as its main platform, Meta may be able to develop even more powerful image and video generation AI.

'For Meta to deliver the best products to people, we need a comprehensive approach on all fronts. This means world-class talent, an ambitious computing roadmap, and collaborations with leading companies in the industry,' Wang said.

The terms of the deal between Meta and Midjourney are still unknown, but Midjourney co-founder and CEO David Holtz commented, 'Midjourney remains an independent, community-backed research lab with no investors,' emphasizing that the company has not been acquired by Meta.

'We're excited to show you what we're creating together! We'll have more to share soon!' said Wang, revealing that Meta and Midjourney plan to announce details of their partnership soon.
