A man was reportedly seen lounging naked in his garden when he was caught on camera by a Google satellite and posted online as part of Street View.

The photo, along with the address, quickly spread, and the man was mocked by his colleagues and neighbors. Furthermore, local broadcasters and media outlets picked up the story, causing him further emotional distress, so he filed a lawsuit against Google Argentina.

In 2024, a lower court dismissed the lawsuit, stating that the man was outdoors in an inappropriate situation, but the man appealed. In 2025, the Court of Appeals ruled in favor of the man and ordered Google to pay him 3 million Argentine pesos (approximately 330,000 yen).

The judge ruled that 'as a digital tool that captures, stores, and publishes images, Google Street View must ensure that it respects people's privacy,' and that the plaintiff's claim was supported by the fact that the man's garden was surrounded by a 6.5-foot (approximately 2-meter) fence, stating, 'The image was taken within the limited space of a person's home, behind a fence taller than a person, and therefore the violation of privacy was clear.'

In addition, local broadcasting stations and local media, which were indicted as accomplices in inflicting emotional distress, were exonerated.

The judge added: 'No one wants their natural appearance to be exposed to the public.'
