In a statement announcing the company's earnings, Walt Disney Company CEO Robert Iger said, 'We are pleased with our third-quarter creative success and financial performance as we continue to deliver on our strategic priorities.' He added, 'We are making significant progress in streaming through the upcoming launch of ESPN's new direct-to-consumer service and our efforts to integrate Hulu into Disney+,' signaling our intention to 'deliver a truly differentiated streaming service.'

Hulu and Disney+ are expected to be integrated and a new app will become available in 2026. As CEO Iger stated, Hulu will be absorbed into Disney+, but a Disney representative said that subscriptions for Hulu and Disney+ will be available for purchase separately.

The Hulu name will not disappear after the merger; rather, starting in the fall of 2025, it will become 'Star' under Disney+ and will be developed as a 'global comprehensive entertainment brand.'

Iger said he expects the new app will improve the consumer experience and reduce cancellation rates. Hulu content will already be available on the Disney+ app starting in spring 2024, in preparation for the integration. He did not mention how the Hulu app will be handled.

ESPN's DTC service, mentioned by CEO Iger, is scheduled to launch on August 21, 2025, for $29.99 (approximately 4,400 yen) per month. The new service will also be called 'ESPN' and will be available in bundles with Disney+ and Hulu.
