We took a look at the exterior of Samsung's foldable smartphones, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7. The specs are quite different between the horizontal and vertical folding types.
Samsung's foldable smartphones, the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Galaxy Z Flip7 , were released on August 1, 2025. The Galaxy Z Fold7 folds horizontally, while the Galaxy Z Flip7 folds vertically. I was able to borrow both models, so I first took some detailed photos of their exteriors.

◆Galaxy Z Fold7
The Galaxy Z Fold7 comes in four colors: Blue Shadow, Silver Shadow, Jet Black, and Mint. I borrowed the Blue Shadow color this time. Here's what it looks like when folded. The outer display (sub-display) is 6.5 inches, has a resolution of 2520 x 1080 pixels, and is a Dynamic AMOLED 2X (organic EL) display. The cover glass is Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2.
There is a punch-hole type camera at the top of the sub-display, with a pixel count of 10 million.
The back has a smooth texture, and the exterior is made of a sturdy material called 'Advanced Armor Aluminum Frame.'
The rear camera is a triple-lens configuration consisting of a 200-megapixel wide-angle camera, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera, and a 100,000-pixel telephoto camera, and the 200-megapixel camera is said to be the same as the one used in

The hinges feature a mechanism called 'Armor FlexHinge,' which is said to be stronger than the previous model.
The main display is 8.0 inches in size, has a resolution of 2184 x 1968 pixels, and is a Dynamic AMOLED 2X (organic EL) display. The glass coating is Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2.
The main display also has a 10-megapixel camera.
There are no noticeable wrinkles on the folding part, and visibility is good.
The side has a volume control button and a power button.
There are no buttons on the other side.
There is a USB Type-C terminal and a speaker on the bottom.
There was a nanoSIM card tray on the top.
When folded, the dimensions are 158.4mm high x 72.8mm wide x 8.9mm thick.
When opened, the dimensions are 158.4mm high x 143.2mm wide x 4.2mm thick.
The actual weight was 216g.
◆Galaxy Z Flip7
The Galaxy Z Flip7 comes in four colors: Blue Shadow, Jet Black, Coral Red, and Mint. I borrowed the Jet Black version. Here's what it looks like when unfolded. The display is 6.9 inches, has a resolution of 2520 x 1080 pixels, is Dynamic AMOLED 2X (organic EL), and is covered with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2.
It has a punch-hole type camera on the top with 10 megapixels.
The back. It folds in the middle. The frame is an 'Armor Aluminum frame.'
The rear camera consists of two cameras: a 50-megapixel wide-angle camera and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera.
The volume control button and power button are lined up on the side.
On the opposite side there is a nanoSIM card slot.
There is a speaker and a USB Type-C terminal on the bottom.
There are no buttons or ports on the top.

The hinge uses 'Armor FlexHinge,' a 'dual rail hinge that allows the display to fold teardrop-shaped,' allowing it to be folded with almost no gaps.
There are no noticeable creases in the area where the display folds.

The rear display (sub-display) is 4.1 inches in size, has a resolution of 1048 x 948 pixels, is a Super AMOLED (organic EL) display, and is made of Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 glass.
By displaying the camera preview screen on the sub-display, you can take selfies while holding the Galaxy Z Flip7 upright.
When folded, the dimensions are 85.5mm high x 75.2mm wide x 13.7mm thick.
When opened, the dimensions are 166.7mm high x 75.2mm wide x 6.5mm thick.
The actual weight was 190g.
◆Specifications of each model
The specifications of the Galaxy Z Fold7, Galaxy Z Flip7, and Galaxy S25 Ultra are summarized in the table below. The Galaxy Z Fold7 is equipped with the same processor as the flagship model and also features a 200-megapixel wide-angle camera. On the other hand, the Galaxy Z Flip7 uses Samsung's Exynos 2500 processor and has slightly lower camera specs. In exchange, the Galaxy Z Flip7 weighs less than 200g and is small enough to fit in the palm of your hand when folded. For this reason, the Galaxy Z Fold7 is aimed at users looking for performance, while the Galaxy Z Flip7 is aimed at users looking for a compact smartphone.
