The Japan premiere of the film 'About a Place in the Kinki Region,' based on the horror novel that won first place in the domestic edition of Takarajimasha's 'This Horror is Amazing! 2024 Edition,' was held at 'A Place in the Kinki Region' on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, with Miho Kanno, who plays Seno Chihiro, Eiji Akaso, who plays Ozawa Yuuki, and director Koji Shiraishi taking to the stage.

The venue was a place that would not normally be used for a movie premiere screening.



Director Shiraishi Koji, Kanno Miho, and Akaso Eiji appeared at the event.



Normally, for events like the Japan premiere, the venue and schedule are announced in advance, and participants are selected by lottery. However, this time, before that, there was a puzzle to solve - 'where the venue was,' and 88 people who were able to find the location of the venue were selected by lottery to participate in the premiere.

Mr. Kanno, who actually attempted the challenge, was unable to solve it at all and was worried that the number of people attending the screening would be very low, and Mr. Akaso felt the same way. Director Shiraishi thanked the participants, quoting a phrase from the film, saying, 'Thank you for finding it.'

The challenge was to find a 'place' in the Kinki region from the transcripts of stories that were told to local residents during on-site interviews.



Along the way, a periodic table of elements was provided as a hint.



By solving the puzzle using the phrase 'place,' the number of characters in the interview, the periodic table of elements, and so on, the answer was revealed to be 'CCO,' or Creative Center Osaka . Director Shiraishi muttered, 'I still don't get it (even after hearing the solution)...'



Regarding this film, Kanno said that he laughed because it was so scary, and that he learned firsthand that 'people laugh when the fear reaches a critical point.' Akaso also commented that the film is one that can be enjoyed over and over again because it contains scares of various genres. Kanno described this assortment of scares as a 'bento of scares,' and said that the 'video that will kill you if you watch it' that appears in the film, which Director Shiraishi described as 'a good trauma,' is particularly impactful, and he hopes viewers will look forward to it.



Kanno said that this was his first time in a horror role in a long time, and that he tried to portray exactly what the director had in mind, rather than presenting something he had prepared in advance, and that even something as simple as turning a doorknob felt like 'there's a way to turn a horror knob.' Akaso, on the other hand, said that the role was difficult because it was something he had never played before, but that the director's performance during the direction helped him realize, 'That's how I should do it.'

Regarding the occult and urban legends, Kanno commented, 'I've given up on Nessie for a while now, but I still believe in Tsuchinoko and Kesaranpasaran. I just haven't seen them.' Akaso also spoke about the existence of UMA, saying, 'I hope they exist. Especially Chupacabra, it sounds nice.'

Director Shiraishi advised the audience, as they were all people who had already solved the mystery, that 'you might end up overthinking it while watching, but I think the best thing to do the first time is to not think about anything and just let yourself be tossed around as if you were on a roller coaster.'

The film 'A Certain Place in the Kinki Region' will be released nationwide on Friday, August 8, 2025.



After the photo session, some photos were taken outside the Creative Center Osaka building, with Kanno and Akaso excited, saying, 'It has a nice atmosphere' and 'It looks like it.'
